Tom Atencio addresses the potential issue of Fedor going to the UFC

Following Brock Lesnar’s victory over Frank Mir at UFC 100, Dana White went on record as saying that he felt it was inevitable that Fedor would come to the UFC. Well if Affliction have anything to do with it, that won’t be any time soon.

Affliction VP Tom Atencio spoke to Fightline.com about Dana’s comments.

“It’s not something that I even think about. It doesn’t phase me what [Dana White] says. [The UFC] can talk, but I just don’t see it happening, personally. But if it does, then perfect. As a fan, that’s something that I would love to see.”

Tom also recently commented on a contract that could see Fedor Emelianenko tied to Affliction until 2012.

“We’ve almost finalized it, but we just haven’t signed the papers. That’s really where we’re at. Everything is moving forward, it has nothing to do with anything but the fact that we’re just trying to make everybody happy, as I always do.”

“We have a great relationship with them and we’re always going to continue on with that, and that’s why I’m not too worried about things.”

“We’re gonna move forward with M1-Global, they’re our partners . . . we are looking to bring him on until 2012.”

A contract with Affliction would throw a spanner in the works regarding Fedor signing to the UFC. Fans wanting to see Fedor clash with Lesnar can only hope that Fedor walks away from Affliction and signs with the UFC.
